JavaScript is everywhere these days. It’s used to quickly move between messages in Gmail so you don’t miss the news about your friend’s upcoming party. It’s used to update your Facebook newsfeed with the latest gossip while you’re still reading about your high school reunion. JavaScript can greatly enhance web applications, but using JavaScript without thinking about accessibility issues can leave some clients unable to use your site. Web applications that gracefully degrade allow users with mobile platforms, accessibility issues, or concerns about the use of JavaScript, to fully interact with your application. This presentation will focus on the guidelines and recommendations that apply to JavaScript accessibility and will explore what can happen if you don’t design with accessibility in mind. Attendees will come away with a list of techniques that they can use to ensure their JavaScript DHTML and AJAX won’t leave some users without access. This session is geared towards Application Developers.
