SeCoSe FeCo Web Design

I’ve been asked to make a couple of websites in my local area but when it comes down to it I don’t think my designs are good enough and I have no clue on how to price because I feel the work I’d do isn’t good enough..

So if I could get a little feedback I will share a few shots of some potential website[s](designs).

I’d appreciate some feedback on the layout itself and if you were to buy it, how much you would pay or if you were to sell it (as a full website) how much would you charge.

Yes @replier3 I have a lot of inspiration off other layouts.. not many of those are completely my own but I did create every detail myself using my software, non of it’s directly stolen or anything.

Well you have obviously used the templates of others to create many of these templates.

Some are more complex than others so you should have a varing price range, but as for exactly what there worth well its simpley what the other guy is willing to pay. but i would stick between the 50 to 100 dollor mark

I’m freelance web designer. how much should I charge for simple 5 pages web design? do i charge per page or per hour? How should I charge for design flash intro and flash website with basic action scripts? will the price be the same for south east asia and other part of the world.

I have been a webdesigner for 5 years and still dont know exactly what to charge, if you are a big company you can have a more definate pricelist. My advice is that you find out what other businesses are charging in your area (in your town, country, etc) hourly and per project, so you can have an idea to compete with them, but still make a profit.

How much would you pay to have a website designed and hosted???
Would £500 ($1000) startup fee and £25 ($50)per hour be a reasonable price?

I suppose it depends on who you are targeting. I paid about half that for a custom website with e-commerce and one of a kind illustrations etc. with http://www.daydreamdesignz.com/ .I do know people who have paid upwards of $4,000. Like I said it all depends who your market is.

Your best bet is to check out what the competition in your target market is charging.

I’m in highschool and am doing some web design for a company, but I have no idea how much I should charge. The company is pleased with the work so far and told me to tell them how much I want for my services. What is a fair price to charge. I have put in about 5 1/2 hours.

in major metro area, maybe $20 an hour
in remote rural area, maybe $10 an hour

I’m an expert developer in html, css, javascript, ajax, php, flash, actionscript, and quite handy in graphic design too. I want to teach people these skills online, via goto meeting or some other web based system. I have no idea what to charge, what is a common price for this kind of thing? Or if you don’t know, what do you think is fair?

Depends on if you will be offering some sort of certification, then you can charge more. But just for learning purposes I would say break it down by the lessons or topic rather than hourly. Sure it may take some people longer to learn but making them pay hourly will only make them more nervous and get frustrated.

Also depends on how in depth you are planning on teaching, obviously HTML basics will take less time than advanced Programming.

But if you need hourly just sneak it into sessions:

I would say 40 dollars for about a 2 hour session for simple stuff, maybe 60 per 2 hour session for more advanced teachings. So you are either making 20 dollars an hour or 30 an hour.

I want to be able to fix computer problems and also do web design to the extent where I can do them as a job. What is the best way to go about learning this? Are there any online programs or guide that are particularly helpful? I don’t care about the price.

Or would you recommend some other way to learning?

Well i have a few options to your dream here as an experienced designer, developer, & entrepreneur. U have that entrepreneur spirit and thats a good thing, but remember you will need a good strategy to make these dreams come true.

First, U must understand each field…as there is a path to your goals, whether its web design or computer repair. To first understand this, you must know web design is completely different from computer repair, and u rarely see someone do both unless they are a true nerd at this.

Web design requires software skills, analytical thinking, and learning codes that are changing rapidly. Computer repair is more technical, like fixing a car, where the hardware is most important. A computer problem needing repair usually only involves a hand ful of possible problems, from hard drive, mother board, or mite just need the operating system reloaded, which brings u back to software. For people who don’t know about computers, they will pay alot just to get their computer back together, however, the falling prices of new computers puts this in risk.

Now to tackle your dream, you can find helpful resources online to learn how to web design. From html for starters, to java, php, or joomla. These are most popular, but basic html can really be done in a software program such as NVU, microsoft expression web, or others, some are free at download.com or microsoft offers trials. For computer repair, u must attend community college at least or like reading online and practicing on old computers. I learned from a technician teaching me and got pretty good in just 1 month of watching & listening. Laptop repair will become more popular and not every computer shop know how to fix these things as they’re more complex. To sum it up, web design will take u a few weeks and computer repair will determine how much u get from your source of information, but usually a few months.

Now if u have more money than time, you may find shortcuts, but some learning can’t be rushed as it’s necessary for these skills. For more business consulting and mentoring, I’ll have to charge a small fee starting at $25, but it’ll be worth every penny to know the ropes online & ways to start small but profitable.
